How to use Intellectual Property
Common and also the most natural way of monetizing your intellectual property (IP) is usage of your own IP. Companies (or individuals) use their IP in order to gain competitive edge which their competitors do not have. It is up to you, to choose between licensing your IP to give this advantage to someone else or you will use your innovation to, for instance, give more value to your products, by using your special design or brand.
Once you create something new, you want to keep its value and potentialy to have its value grow. By using your IP in business, it is, in most cases, gaining more and more value. For instance, if you create original and good looking logo and you use it as your business brand (remember to register it as trademark as well!) it is gaining value by time by every new customer of yours as the customers will more and more recognize products and services trade under this brand. They will make a connection between your brand and your products and therefore, they will come back and buy more later on.
By doing this, the IP is bringing value into your business, your goods and services can be sold for more and indirectly you are getting more customers.
This was only one example of making money with your IP. Same principle applies to using all types of IP such as patents, designs, copyright etc.
