Mauritius
Mauritius is an island country, located in the east from Madagascar and it is also a country with the biggest population density in the Africa. Most inhabitants of Mauritius are english speakers and this country is well-known as a favourite summer holiday destination. These statistics make this country a good target for an expansion of businesses for trademark and brand owners.
Advantages for trademark owners
Thanks to accession of Mauritius to the Madrid system, it is now possible for trademark owners and also for a new applicants for trademark to expand trademark protection to Mauritius within the framework of this international trademark system. This is possible by filing a new international trademark application and also during the subsequent designation of this country in existing international trademark.
The biggest advantage of international trademark system is an option to file a single application for trademark and designate any amount of member state countries in which applicant seeks trademark protection. By doing this you do not have to file trademark application in every single country separately. Next significant advantage of this system is that the applicant pays lower filing fees for each countries in comparisson to situation in which he would file application for trademark registration in each country separately.
